WINTER HUSH
It’s
December here in our little town of Merritt, and the snow has begun to
fall and cover the pastures, streams, and mountains. Earlier this
evening, I stood outside to watch the fluffy white flakes fall aimlessly
to the ground, and I noticed the familiar hush that comes with the
snow. I could almost hear the snow flakes as they met the white blanket
that had formed so effortlessly before them.
Selfishly
holding on to a summer of magic, I now realized the beauty and
excitement that this winter will inevitably deliver to my family.
Snowmen anxiously waiting to greet us and share a cup of hot cocoa,
and the smell of Granny’s shortbread will fill the kitchen and spark
special memories of my childhood.
I
will have to start keeping secrets of all the Christmas presents that
my children have bought for each other, their eyes will sparkle while
decorating the tree, and Christmas music will jingle in the background.
Yes winter truly is a season to appreciate, after all it brings people
together, and that is magical in and of itself. This winter, as I huddle
to keep warm in the arms of my loved ones, I will have a smile on my
face just as bright as the hot summer sun.
