RHIZOTOMY...A GOOD IDEA?
I have had severe, chronic back pain for years. I have two herniated disks (L4, L5) and now my Neurosurgeon says he thinks I have facet joint degeneration. All this equals NERVE pain. A Rhizotomy has been scheduled for Jan 14th 2011, and of course, I am a little leary about someone sticking a needle into my spine, no matter how good they are! A Rhizotomy is a procedure in which they insert a needle, under live x-ray, into your back and target and destroy selected nerves with electric pulses. After investigating this "noninvasive" surgery technique, (pros and cons and complications) I have decided to go ahead and have procedure done. In the meantime, I will be getting Registered Massage Therapy treatment weekly in hopes that the treatment I receive can prevent, or at least prolong the procedure.
